And we’re dancing

May 6, 2012

I really love dancing. I love watching it and doing it… even if it’s just bad crazy dancing. So here are a couple of fun videos that really make me want to DANCE! 🙂

I dont know who this guy is but I love the idea of dancing as a workout. Love how it started so randomly and look at everyone having a good time. Love the crazies. Introducing… dance walking:

Halaal all the things!

March 29, 2012

So, what’s happening in sunny South Africa today? Must be a slow news day because look what’s trending on Twitter:

So it looks like Christians are excited about eating hot cross buns at Easter…. as long as they’re not halaal. Wait… what? How did this happen?? Well it looks like Woolworths in trouble with the Christians again. This time they decided to mark their hot cross buns as halaal… and um… this seemed to piss off some christians. The reasons why they were pissed off range from the ridiculous to the deeply offensive. But here’s a quick recap of the events before I make fun of the whole thing. 🙂

Too much internet?

January 17, 2012

This might seem like a strange post coming from me. Have you seen how many sites I’m on these days? And those are only the active ones. I tend to be an early adopter so I have a few accounts everywhere online.

I’ve probably been active online since I started university in 1998. I’ve done everything from IRC to yahoo chat rooms to finding StumbleUpon in 2006 and being an early adopter of Facebook and Twitter. So there comes a time when enough is enough, right?

2011 in review

January 4, 2012

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 3,900 times in 2011. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 3 trips to carry that many people.

It’s a Geeky Christmas

December 20, 2011

So I really do love everything about christmas. I’ve written before about some of my favourite cheesy muzak and some beautiful choirs spreading the christmas cheer.  Now it’s time to “geek it up” for christmas.

Christmas lights bring out the child in me. We dont really do these kind of big christmas light displays in South Africa. It doesn’t make sense in our weather and it must be really expensive. But we thank our American friends for giving us this light display based on the Angry Birds theme song.

Nature being awesome

November 14, 2011

I had a friend that hated it when I used the word awesome for every little thing. “If you want awesome, look at the beauty of nature”, he would say. I cant really argue with that. Check out some of these cool videos I’ve recently stumbled.

The first one has brought such a lovely word into our awareness: murmuration. Say it again with me: murrrrmurrrrmaaaation. Lovely. I’m sure it’s led many people to their google to find other interesting words for collections of birds. A parliament of owls? Really?!  For the real geeks, there’s some real science behind this but, really… all you have to do is watch and smile.

You can dance if you want to

July 24, 2011

We can dance if we want to

We can leave your friends behind

‘Cause your friends don’t dance and if they don’t dance

Well they’re no friends of mine

I say, we can go where we want to

A place where they will never find

And we can act like we come from out of this world

Leave the real one far behind

And we can dance

I say, we can dance, we can dance

Everything out of control

We can dance, we can dance

I like.

🙂
