Too hot to think
So… it’s hot in Cape Town….. unbearably hot. I thought I’d share something to cool us all down. How about some fun in the snow?
I stumbled onto this cute video of a dancing penguin. The article from The Daily Mail compares the happy little one to the main character from the movie “Happy Feet”. Got to admit it… this just makes me smile.

Christmas choirs
In my last post about Christmas music, I focused on mainly commercial music. I’ve just stumbled onto these amazing and entertaining choirs celebrating Christmas in a fun way. Here we go…
Well, let’s start with the funny one. Everyone knows that Christmas is a good time for family drama and epic fighting. Why not add to the family drama and come out this Christmas? Here’s the song for that very situation.
Christmas muzak
Oh, Christmas time… It’s a time for feasting and goodwill to all men. It’s the silly season and it’s the season where all good sense goes on holiday too. I really do love it though. I try to embrace silliness and cheesy kitsch throughout the year but, during this special time, everyone else joins in the fun. So, put your good taste away, and celebrate with me.
We’ve all had to suffer through years of Boney M madness. I’m sure one day I can listen to Boney again but, right now, I’m excluding that horror from my playlist. However, I do fully embrace the 80′s wonderfulness that is Wham! It only comes on the radio once a year and all the ladies conveniently forget that George Michael would never actually never give them his heart. And what is Christmas without a chase in the snow and sitting next to a roaring fireplace? *quiet chuckle from another hot summer’s night in Africa*
Fireflies at Kirstenbosch
Last night I went on a little walk at Kirstenbosch… a walk to find fireflies. It wasn’t quite as magical as the song and almost as brief as the TV series.
I’ve always loved going to Kirstenbosch but I’ve never been at night and I’ve never been on a guided tour. It was interesting learning a little bit about the history. The first trees were planted by Cecil John Rhodes in 1895 and he later bequeathed the estate to the people of Cape Town. In 1913, the Botanical Society was formed and, under the leadership of Harold Pearson, they now manage this beautiful botanical garden.
But… let’s talk about the bugs.
The Facebook Movie
Everyone is talking about “The Facebook Movie” that was recently officially released as “The Social Network”. I’ve been hearing all the hype about it for a while now and was excited to finally see it when it came out last week in South Africa.
The hype started when Sony Pictures released this trailer in July this year. The script was also leaked and many people weren’t very happy with it. For one thing, it looked like a typical Hollywood style “over-dramatization” of events. While we waited for the movie’s release, there were some very funny mock-trailers that were made about some other social networks (watch the one about Twitter).
Eventually, the movie was released and, to everyone’s surprise, it was actually very good.
Conceptual Photography
I like beautiful images… but I love beauty with a message.
I was stumbled this site from The Photo Argus and I’d just like to share some of the images with you. I had a look around the rest of the site, and it looks like it’s filled with useful information for photographers (and wannabe’s like me
).
Enjoy.
